Fibroids typically grow inside the uterus and therefore shouldn’t be affected by a menstrual cup or disc. That said, your period product will have a big impact on how well you’re able to deal with the symptoms of fibroids—such as heavy menstrual bleeding, prolonged periods, and pelvic pain.
We believe that every person deserves a better period. Choosing the right product for your body, especially when you have an underlying condition, can be a game-changer. A menstrual disc (like Flex Disc or Flex Plant+ Disc) is a great alternative to tampons for those with fibroids: Both discs hold as much as 5+ super tampons and can be worn for up to 12 hours at a time, all without exacerbating pain or cramping.
If you prefer a reusable product, check out our new Flex Reusable Disc, which holds as much as 6+ super tampons. Flex Cup may also be a good option: Depending on the size you choose, it can hold up to 3+ super tampons. It’s one of the softest period cups on the market and, like our discs, it can be worn for up to 12 hours.
Keep in mind that, for some, menstrual cups are less comfortable than menstrual discs for those with pelvic pain. Cups sit lower in the vaginal canal and are held in place via suction, which creates some pressure against the vaginal walls. Discs, on the other hand, are worn in the vaginal fornix—the widest part of the vagina with the fewest nerve endings.
