Can I get TSS from using Flex products?

Flex products have not been linked to TSS (Toxic Shock Syndrome). Unlike tampons, Flex menstrual discs and cups collect your period, rather than absorbing it. They’re made with medical-grade, biologically inert (non-porous) materials that do not host toxic bacteria or disrupt your vaginal pH.

Always wash your hands before inserting or removing your period product to prevent introducing bacteria from your fingers to your vagina.

Flex products are FDA-approved for up to 12 hours of wear. Don’t wear Flex products for longer than 12 hours without changing. Single-use Flex products (including Flex Disc and Flex Plant+ Disc) must be thrown away after wear; they cannot be washed and reworn. Flex Reusable Disc and Flex Cup must be emptied and cleaned prior to reinsertion every 12 hours.

If you have previously been diagnosed with menstrual TSS, we do not recommend using any internally-worn products, including Flex menstrual discs or cups.
